Recap: Illinois vs. Chicago State
Champaign, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jon Ekey scored 19 points, leading four players in double figures, as the Illinois Fighting Illini captured a 77-53 win over the Chicago State Cougars in non-conference play at State Farm Center.
Joseph Bertrand, Tracy Abrams and Rayvonte Rice each tallied 12 points for the Illini (5-0) as they remained undefeated. Abrams also pulled down eight rebounds, second to Nnanna Egwu who cleared nine boards for the hosts.
The Cougars (2-4), losers of three in a row, were led by Clarke Rosenberg who tallied 16 points off the bench, followed by Matt Ross with 13 for the visitors.
Chicago State made a total of just nine field goals in the first half and, while four of those came from behind the 3-point line, the team still trailed at the break, 33-26.
In the second half Illinois, who connected on 50 percent from the field, again held the Cougars to just nine field goals, en route to the 24-point win.
The Illini dominated on the glass, 39-20, limiting Chicago State to just four offensive rebounds the entire night.Game Notes
