Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Penn State
Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Lamar Patterson and Talib Zanna each scored 16 points to lead the Pittsburgh Panthers to a 78-69 triumph over the Penn State Nittany Lions at Petersen Events Center as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Patterson added nine rebounds and five assists for the unbeaten Panthers (8-0), while Zanna registered 10 rebounds and four blocks. Cameron Wright and James Robinson were also solid with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
For Penn State (6-3), Tim Frazier scored 27 points on 10-of-17 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line, and he's now scored at least 25 points four times on the young season. D.J. Newbill added 18 points for the visitors.
Penn State shot a modest 42.3 percent from the floor in the opening stanza as it carried a 30-28 lead into intermission. Pitt made only 28 percent of its field goal tries prior to halftime, but it kept the game close by shooting 13- of-14 from the free-throw line.
After 13 ties and nine lead changes, the Panthers took the lead for good with 5:04 left on a pair of Robinson free throws, and they ended the game on a 20-10 run to pull away.
Pitt outscored Penn State at the charity stripe, 28-19, and held a 38-29 advantage on the glass.Game Notes
