Recap: Vanderbilt vs. Texas A&M
Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - James Siakam scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, as the Vanderbilt Commodores edged the Texas A&M Aggies in overtime, 57-54, in Southeastern Conference action at Memorial Gymnasium.
Kyle Fuller chipped in with 12 points, while Damian Jones also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards to help the Commodores (14-10, 6-6 SEC) end a two-game slide.
Jamal Jones had a game-high 17 points and 13 boards to pace the Aggies (14-11, 5-7), who dropped to 1-9 this season in games played outside of College Station. Jones, however, also committed seven of his team's 16 turnovers. Kourtney Roberson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points to go along with four steals and a pair of blocks in the loss.
Vanderbilt found itself trailing by a 23-19 halftime margin after shooting a mere 6-of-24 from the floor in the opening frame.
Trailing by 11 with six and a half minutes to play in regulation, the Commodores made their move with a 16-5 run. Vandy's Rob Odom forced overtime on a game-tying jumper with 3.9 seconds left on the clock.
The Commodores never trailed in the extra session, as they made 6-of-9 free throws and held the Aggies to 1-of-7 shooting from the floor.
Vandy, which beat Texas A&M by 11 in College Station on Jan. 25, won the rematch despite shooting just 30.9 percent from the floor and going 3-of-26 (.115) from beyond the arc.Game Notes
