Recap: Tennessee vs. South Carolina
Knoxville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan McRae paced all scorers with 24 points, as the Tennessee Volunteers made easy work of the South Carolina Gamecocks, 72-53, in an SEC clash at Thompson-Boling Arena.
McRae was red-hot from 3-point range, knocking down 6-of-8 from beyond the arc for Tennessee (15-8, 6-4 SEC), which has won three of four. Jarnell Stokes tallied 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the hosts, while Jeronne Maymon added 10 points and eight boards.
For South Carolina (8-15, 1-9), Sindarius Thornwell was the lone player in double figures with 15 points, but he did so on just 5-of-18 shooting from the field.
Tennessee set the tone early on, as it carried a commanding 45-22 lead into intermission after shooting a lofty 58.1 percent from the field in the first half. South Carolina, meanwhile, shot just 27.6 percent in the opening stanza.
The Gamecocks improved their field goal shooting to 44.4 percent in the second half, but the Vols remained steady at 45.5 percent and the outcome was never in question.
South Carolina shot just 3-of-14 from 3-point range and committed a game-high 14 turnovers, which Tennessee converted into 20 points.Game Notes
