Recap: South Carolina vs. Texas A&M

Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Sindarius Thornwell and Duane Notice scored 19 points each as the South Carolina Gamecocks completed an 80-52 rout of the Texas A&M Aggies in a Southeastern Conference tilt at Colonial Life Arena.

Brenton Williams contributed 18 points for the Gamecocks (8-12, 1-6 SEC) as they notched their first conference win of the 2013-14 campaign. Laimonas Chatkevicius tied his career-high with 12 points off the bench.

Shawn Smith and Jamal Jones scored nine points apiece for Texas A&M (12-8, 3-4).

South Carolina began the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back. The hosts scored 15 points off of turnovers and shot 46.4 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 41-21 lead at the intermission. The Aggies were limited to 33.3 percent efficiency from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of the tilt.

Texas A&M continued to struggle after the break as it made good on only 37.5 percent of its field goal tries including just 2-of-8 from 3-point range. The Gamecocks converted 15-of-20 attempts at the free-throw line in the second stanza to extend their already sizeable advantage on the scoreboard.

South Carolina finished with a 33-25 edge in total rebounds.
