Huntington, WV ( - Tom Herrion has resigned as men's head basketball coach at Marshall, ending a four-year tenure.

Herrion was 67-67 during his stint with the Thundering Herd, including 11-22 this past season. The Herd's campaign came to a close on Wednesday in a 73-58 loss to Old Dominion in the Conference USA Tournament.

"I have decided that it is in the best interest of all parties that I resign my position as head basketball coach at Marshall University," said Herrion in a statement Friday. "I greatly appreciate the opportunity that was given to me and will cherish the last four years and the many great people I have met and the memorable moments we achieved."

Marshall earned bids to the 2011 CIT and the 2012 NIT, the first postseason berths for the Herd since 1988.

"I want to thank Tom for his loyalty and dedication to our university and men's basketball program," said athletic director Mike Hamrick. "We will begin a national search immediately to identify the right person to help this program achieve greater success."

Herrion also served as head coach at the College of Charleston for four years, posting an 80-38 mark. He owns a career coaching record of 147-105.
