Storm chances this evening and through the holiday weekend

Connect with me on Facebook and Twitter!

We will be keeping an eye on a chance for storms to develop, mainly for our western counties alone the New Mexico/Texas border where the most instability is. Some of these storms could become severe with the main threat being large hail and damaging winds.

Live video by Ustream

After midnight energy diminishes and we’ll start to see a clearing trend. Partly cloudy skies will remain through much of the day Sunday with some sun here and there. The day will start off in the mid 60s and get all the way into the mid 90s. It’s also going to be a breezy day with winds out of the south near 15 to 20 mph.

There isn’t a very good chance for storms Sunday afternoon, but if we get anything at all, it will likely be in the evening hours.

Wind and the chance for storms pick up once Memorial Day arrives. We’ll have another warm day starting in the mid 60s and warming into the mid to upper 90s and partly cloudy skies.

A surface low will pull some moisture and warm air into the area through the middle of the week which will help fuel the possibility of isolated storms, along with instability in the atmosphere. That opportunity for storms will hang around all the way through Wednesday and maybe even into Thursday. The greatest instability and moisture, so far, is in place on Wednesday, where our best chance for any of these storms to become severe will be, and our best chance for rainfall totals.

Tuesday will bring a slight cool down, but it will still be warm, close to 90 degrees. Near 90 degree temperatures will stick around through Friday as well as morning lows in the mid 60s.

News at Nine will be on late tonight, after NASCAR.

-Caitlin
