Youth in the community participated in the 'Fit for Fun' kids triathlon on Saturday. Children ages 7 to 14 competed in three events: swimming, biking and running.
About 109 children registered for the event.
Betty Blanton said it was also a good way to involve the whole family.
"We feel like this involves the entire family. You can't really just send your children over to go run a mile, or to go ride their bikes, so we feel like it gets the whole family up and moving which is really the reason we do this, " Blanton said. "We want to promote healthy activity for an entire family."
Savanna Silva, 10, came in first in the girls division and 2nd overall. She said she's been preparing for a long time.
"I swim at Lubbock Swim club and I started swimming competition when I was 7 1/2. I want to be in the olympics for swimming," Silva said.
The Lady Raider basketball team was out and about greeting the kids and encouraging them for the event. The team handed out dog tags to every child who ran across the finish line.
After the exhausting endeavor, children were able to dip into the leisure pool and swim.
