Bringing a beautiful instrument back to life.
Texas Tech's timeless pipe organ has seen better days. It's been a fixture at Hemmle Recital Hall for 30 years.
Parts of the organ date back to the 1950's when it was housed at Oberlin College of Music.
Needless to say, it is in need of some renovations to get it back into top condition.
Bill Ballenger, director of Tech's School of Music, has come up with an answer.
In hopes of matching a challenge grant by the C-H Foundation, Ballenger is running 1000 miles to raise $175,000 to restore the instrument.
Ballenger told FOX34, "It's a very special instrument. Of course, we have music that ranges back more than 400 years and so from a historical and musical standpoint, it's incredibly important that we have in this university, and this school of music, a wonderful pipe organ."
Tuesday marked Ballenger's 400th mile. He began his trek September 1st, and hopes to raise the funds by the 1st of April.
Pledges and donations can be made at the School of Music's website.
