Texas Tech has been honored with the second annual Diversity Award from "Insight Into Diversity" Magazine.
The university was one of 56 national institutions of higher learning, and one of two in the state to receive the award.
Tech President Duane Nellis said the award indicates the university's commitment to attracting students from all backgrounds. Schools were selected based on their diversity efforts, which include race, ethnicity, gender, age, veteran status and people with disabilities.
The university was also recognized for being a top military-friendly school by Military Advanced Education.
The list in the "2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities" was compiled from more than 300 institutions. Each took an extensive survey, which was then evaluated by MAE.
The criteria covered four major areas: military culture, support services, financial services and flexibility.
