Governor Rick Perry has announced a new student regent for the Texas Tech University System.

Joshua Heimbecker will represent students as a member of the Board of Regents. His one-year term begins on June 1 and runs through May of 2014.

Heimbecker was elected vice president of Angelo State's Student Government Association in 2012 and served as chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee and president pro-temp of the Student Senate.

By law, the student regent rotates between Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Angelo State University and serves a one-year term. Heimbecker replaces the 2012 regent, Suzanne Taylor.
