Lubbock county deputies who specialize in disabling explosive devices assist Hale county deputies, who come across a pipe bomb while investigating a stabbing. That explosive very near a school, so of course the communities residents are rattled. Fox 34's Wendy Skyler details the ordeal and reactions.
Hale Center police received a call around 8:30 a.m. that a man had been stabbed several times in the 100 block of 15th street.
Officers found much more than an injured a victim. They also found a bomb located in his vehicle. That generated a call for assistance, to the Lubbock Sheriff's office, DPS and federal agents.
"Lubbock Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad sent two of their personnel to this location," said Cpl. John Gonzales, TX Department of Public Safety. "They were able to locate the instrument, remove that item without any incident, able to render it disabled completely."
Carr middle school is just two blocks away from where the device was found. The school was put on lockdown until the all clear was given.
No suspects are in custody, and no injuries reported.
Police are not releasing information on the vehicle's owner, but FOX 34 has been able to determine Charles Joslin lives at the residence where this occurred.
Joslin has been in the news of late. He's accused of bilking thousands of dollars from radio listeners and Ramar Communications. He was an employee of our sister radio station Stars 97-3. He reportedly was released from the Lubbock county jail a few days ago.
