Journalist Soledad O'Brien made her rounds in Lubbock Wednesday.
O'Brien, a former CNN anchor, has won several awards, including an Emmy for her coverage of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
O'Brien spoke to students at the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders. She talked about the importance of education, integrity and diversity.
"When I talk about diversity, I'm actually talking about everybody's story," O'Brien said, "having an opportunity to be heard, and the truth is there's a lot of diversity in the diversity."
O'Brien stressed the importance of realizing diversity is not just about one type of person.
"So I think it's really important to expand the number of stories we're telling, so you can reflect a whole community," O'Brien said.
She was also the featured speaker at Texas Tech's Celebrate Diversity Banquet. Proceeds form the banquet benefit the Celebrate Diversity Scholarship Fund.
