Mata sentenced for defrauding UMC

The second defendant in a false invoice scheme targeting UMC has been sentenced for mail fraud. 

Rudy Mata, 40, of San Antonio, has been ordered to begin serving 18 months in federal prison next month, and must pay more than $54,000 in restitution. According to court documents, Mata admitted he submitted bogus invoices to UMC as part of a scheme that bilked the hospital out of nearly $682,000. 

Former UMC Vice President Greg bruce was sentenced last month to 51 months in prison for his guilty plea in a related case. 

Bruce begins his sentence next week.
