Director of Operations, Eddie Perez, said textiles that don’t sell in the retail or clearance store get crammed into squares that weigh about 1,400 pounds.

Clothing is the most commonly recycled item at Goodwill in Lubbock, the center salvages about 200,000 pounds of clothing per month.

Goodwill also salvages many other items like computers, cardboard, appliances, books and furniture.

The cost-free service is open to the public as a way to get rid of old items without throwing them into the landfill.
