Lubbock County Sheriff's Deputies will be taking extra steps to protect homeowners and their property as we enter the holiday season.
Sheriff Kelly Rowe said this time of year usually brings a dramatic jump in burglary, theft and stolen vehicles.
As part of their annual Operation St. Nick, the Sheriff's Department will increase patrols to deter crime, and increase under cover operation to catch criminals, especially in areas outside of the city.
They also ask neighbors to keep an eye out for people who may not belong in the neighborhood, and report anyone who looks suspicious.

"What we've seen in terms of reduction since this plans inception in 2009 is about a 59-percent reduction in the amount of burglaries and thefts," Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe said.

Rowe also urges homeowners to make sure their homes are secure when no one is home.
You can also set up a "vacation watch" on your home with the sheriff's office if you go out of town.
