A Lubbock outreach group will make its first full-scale medical mission to Haiti in almost two years on Saturday.

The founder of Operation HOPE, Dr. John Thomas, and a medical team will travel to Montrouis, Haiti to perform procedures on the sick. It's the outreach's 28th trip there since Thomas started the project back in 1998.

"This time, there's two surgeons, an anesthesiologist, and a nurse going with me," Thomas said. "So, we'll do a lot of hernias, and a couple of thyroids and hystorectomies. Things that need to be done that, if we're not there, won't be done."

Dr. Thomas and his crew will be in Haiti almost a week. There will be one day of clinic, and four days of surgeries.
