A tractor-trailer hauling a payload of batteries toppled off an 1-27 overpass just north of New Deal Monday, trapping the driver and spilling the hazardous load.
The semi was traveling southbound when the driver lost control. A hazardous material team from Wolfforth Fire responded to deal with spilled diesel fuel as well as battery acid.
Fire crews also freed the driver whose injuries are being evaluated. He was flown from the scene by helicopter, his condition has not yet been reported.
Another large truck wrecked north of Abernathy on the interstate. This semi headed northbound when he took out the median. The driver was unscathed, but the highway was shut down for several hours while the wreckage was removed.
