About 18 percent of seniors in Texas are facing the threat of hunger. This is according to the Senior Hunger Report Card issued by Meals on Wheels.

The report places Texas in the top five states with the highest percentage of those 60 and older facing "food insecurity". Lubbock may be the exception said Lorrie Bellair, Exec. Dir. Lubbock Meals on Wheels. She said the Lubbock Meals on Wheels is not experiencing what others are in parts of the state.

“We are feeding over 620 people a day,” Bellair said. “We are very fortunate because we are not government funded. The people in this community have really rallied around us. We are able to support ourselves right now very well.”

Lubbock Meals on Wheels serves one hot meal a day for homebound people in Lubbock on a $1.5 million budget.
