The Lubbock Meals on Wheels agency was out at different Walmart locations Saturday, asking families to donate food for seniors.

The agency provides nearly 600 hot meals each month. That's 300 weekend meal sacks per month.

The event also offers companionship to those seniors in need.

"We have some individuals who only do this to have someone come to their home once a day. It's so neat and you fall in love with them, you take them with you in your heart," said volunteer Shirley Bobbitt. "It's a fantastic organization and I hope one day when i am in need of this, that someone will volunteer and do the same for me."

You can drop off donations at the Lubbock Meals on Wheels, located at 2304 34th Street.

You can donate any of these items for the Lubbock Meals on Wheels weekend bags:

Instant Oatmeal, Instant Cream of Wheat, Individual cereal boxes, cereal and granola bars, juice boxes, soup, Tuna, Vienna sausages, fruit cups, pudding and Jello cups, cheese crackers, Mac & Cheese cups, Goldfish, peanuts, pretzels and popcorn.
