The next step in what Cooper ISD Superintendent, Pat Henderson, is calling a long awaited project is now underway. TxDOT has scheduled a meeting to discuss building an overpass at the U.S. 87 and Woodrow Road intersection in Lubbock County.

Superintendent Henderson said the intersection was not built for the traffic created by more than 2,000 students, their parents, 700 faculty members, and other Cooper departments all located in that area.

"I cant tell you how many near misses that the people out here, and hits," Henderson said. "We have had people die out here and that has been well documented. We wrote TxDOT, I can't remember exactly when it was, but the school board and I wrote them a letter requesting that they build an overpass."

That meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lubbock Cooper Independent School District Performing Arts Center.
