A project set to widen a portion of Erskine Street is dependent on an answer from TxDOT on a $750,000 request.
The board of Lubbock's Metropolitan Planning Organization is asking for federal funding for environmental work and the design for Erskine from the Texas Tech Parkway to Indiana Avenue.
The city of Lubbock would provide 20 percent matching funds. The city's master thoroughfare plan calls for Erskine to be widened to five lanes.
If the federal funding request is approved, engineering and planning work could be done in the next fiscal year.
