A Lubbock community partnership was awarded a U.S. Department of Education Promise Neighborhood
grant.

The East Lubbock Promise Neighborhood Consortium will receive $24.5 million over the next five
years.

It's a collaboration of Lubbock ISD, Texas Tech, TTUHSC and several partnering businesses and
organizations. Student success and ultimate stability is the goal, to be achieved by way of academic initiatives,
health and safety education and social support efforts from throughout the community.

Scott Ridley, Dean of Texas Tech's College of Education, says the consortium must coordinate and expand efforts
on many levels.

"For all the time and energy that's happening across the United States, there hasn't been the kind of impact
that there has been in projects where everyone's working together," Ridley said.

Kelly Trlica, chief academic officer for the Lubbock Independent School District, and FOX 34's
Jeff Klotzman discussed how the thoughts will be turned into actions in the next five years. You
