Texas Tech law student turned pageant queen, DaNae Couch, has traveled about 17,000 miles and made over 100 appearances this year as Miss Texas. Now, the third-year law student is traveling to Las Vegas to compete for the Miss America crown.
Couch said after her time at Tech, she feels more prepared than ever.
"Tech certainly has put me through a lot of different scenarios, like getting called on in class, that really made me confident in who I was," Couch said. "I never face a question as Miss Texas that I'm afraid to answer or concerned about the way I answer, because the student body, the professors, and the entire Tech law community really shaped me into the person I am today, and I think it differentiates me as a contestant in Miss America. Not only that, but it makes me a good Miss Texas."
The competition kicks off January 8th. This year, there is a peoples' choice vote at
missamerica.org. The contestant who is selected by the voters automatically advances to the top 15 for the January 12 finals.
