If you are not familiar with the neighborhood, you're not aware of a hidden gem. For residents of the Heart of Lubbock neighborhood that surrounds Stumpy Hamilton Park it is just that. And they want to make it even better.

Located at 22nd Street and Avenue X, the park was considered as a location for a dog park. When that project failed to materialize Jason Hodges, a landscape architect and HOL resident, floated the idea of bringing the park back to life.

Among the ideas being proposed is revival of the softball fields, creating a walking park and adding culture by making the park a stop for Lubbock's First Friday art trail.

"What we want the most, is that, the neighborhood as a group comes up with these ideas," Hodges said. "It's not me as a designer saying, 'well, we need art, we're going to have art.' It needs to come out of the group as an idea for it to really be successful and take fruit."

Hodges said a committee has been formed, and the next step is holding meetings over the next few months to brainstorm ideas.
