He's just two years old, hails from Czechoslovakia, and is a cross-trained expert in unique areas of law enforcement.

And while this officer can't wear a uniform, he has a badge on his collar as a certified member of the Lubbock Independent School District police department.

The black labrador named "Bad" is officer Daryl Kissell's partner.

Chief Mark Hinshaw says this canine brings some very special skills.

"His primary job function will be to detect narcotics and certain weapons based on scents that he can detect. So he will be out in the schools looking for these illicit items. He will also be visiting the elementary schools conducting an education piece and letting the youngsters know number one that drugs are unacceptable and illegal, but more importantly, the fact that the school district is actively out there seeking drugs."

The new LISD police canine unit is made possible by a grant and the reorganization of existing department resources.
