An inmate is in critical condition after an assault at the Wheeler State Jail in Plainview.
Prison System Spokesman Jason Clark said the man hospitalized in Lubbock has a brain injury and a fractured nose.
"An investigation was initiated by the office of inspector general," Clark said. "And it appears that the 47-year-old Hispanic offender was assaulted by two other offenders in the dorm area."
Clark said the suspects are being held in pre-trial detention as the investigation continues. He said there is no indication at this time that staff violated any prison policies.
