Hub City BBQ kicks off Thursday morning

RE: Street Closures for the 11th Annual Hub City BBQ Cook-off
LUBBOCK, TX—The following downtown streets will be closed for the 11th Annual Hub City BBQ presented by Suddenlink:
Broadway from Avenue N. to Avenue K. Ave. L. between Broadway and Main Street  Ave. K between Broadway and Main Street.

These streets are scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, until 8 a.m. Friday, September 21.  This will impact eastbound and westbound traffic on Broadway between Avenue N. and Avenue K., and northbound and southbound traffic on Avenues L. and K. between Broadway and Main Street. Travelers who frequent this area are urged to take alternate routes on Wednesday and Thursday.

This closure has been approved by the City of Lubbock and the Chamber currently holds all appropriate permits to do so. Event time is Thursday, September 20th from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., Entry gates will be at Broadway & Ave. N, Broadway east of Ave. K, and Main & Ave. L.  A map of the event is available at

Over 100 teams compete for bragging rights to the best BBQ in West Texas. Eligible cooking teams are members of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. Categories include brisket and ribs, other meats and grilled desserts. Entertainment includes Granger Smith with special guests Jason Nutt and Highway 70, and Mariachi Carino.

Tickets are $20 through Tuesday, Sept. 18; $10 for students with valid ID; and admission for children ages five and under is free. Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $25, students $15.
