First responders arrived at a chaotic scene Tuesday following a frantic 911 call from the 1600 block of 58th St.

A neighbor from across the street says she saw the apparent occupant of a duplex on fire covered in blood. When she asked him if he was OK, he made a shocking statement.

"The subject had blood on him was claiming he had killed his wife and that he had set the duplex on fire," said Lubbock Police Sgt. Jonathan Stewart.

The victim has now been identified as 34-year-old Denise Alonzo.

The suspect's name has not been released at this point. He is currently hospitalized due to injuries suffered in the incident and has not been arrested.
