The man whose wife was found dead in their fire-gutted duplex in December has been charged with murder. 35-year-old Abel Alonzo has been accused of causing the death of his 34-year-old wife, Denise.
Police and firefighters were called to the 1600 Block of 58th Street on December 18. They found the body of the woman inside the home. Neighbors said her husband was outside lying on the ground, bloody and holding a knife.
Investigators said Abel Alonzo murdered his wife then set the residence on fire. Alonzo is in the custody of the Lubbock County Sheriffs Department while he remains hospitalized from burns and other injuries.
