Taking stock of the homeless population in Lubbock is the goal of a survey that will be conducted next week.
Volunteers are needed to help with the annual Point-in-Time count on January 24.
Information gathered helps members of the south plains homeless consortium apply for grants, plan programs and services, and answer some important questions.
"We can get not only the number of people, but the characteristics. what their needs are," Co-Chair of the Point-in-Time Survey, Mary Guetersloh, said. "So we can look at several things. One is what's our gaps. What's our needs. And also how we're improving from year to year."
Volunteers who will be conducting interviews for the survey must attend one training session. Those classes will be offered on Saturday and on Tuesday.
