The unemployment rate in Lubbock may be dropping even more. 95 new jobs are coming to the North and East sides of the city. The Lubbock Economic Development Alliance has worked to bring the expansion of two companies to the hub city.

Shearer's Foods has six plants in Lubbock already with more than 200 employees and will be adding 14 more over the next five years. Tyco Fire Protection Products in Lubbock will be creating 81 additional jobs here in the next five years.

Councilman Floyd Price is excited for the opportunities these jobs will bring for those in his district.

"You don't have to go that far to go and get a good job. Now these are high paying jobs too, these are good jobs."

Jay Shestokes, plant manager for Shearer's Foods, says their workers are dedicated.

"They want to do better for the company they work for, so that stand out in my mind," Shestokes said.

The added value to the Lubbock economy is $10.2 million annually when the plants are fully opperational.
