Jamie Zuniga, 9, likes fast cars.
He took a ride in a Lamborghini Thursday, just one small part of the surprises he got from Make-A-Wish.
"It's like a miracle for me. I really wanna go," he said.
Jamie and his family just found out they are taking a trip to Walt Disney World. Besides Mickey Mouse, he is most looking forward to seeing Olaf from Frozen.
"Yea he's funny. He's the coolest character on Frozen. He does a lot of stuff. He makes me laugh," Zuniga said.
Make-A-Wish is seeing tremendous success in Lubbock this year thanks in part to a fundraiser by Vista Bank.
"Originally their goal was to raise $8,000, which is the average goal of the wish. And clearly they surpassed that goal and are able to grant at least two wishes. They were able to raise over $18,000 at their first event for us," said Kristen Hubert of Make-A-Wish North Texas.
Going to Disney, riding in a fancy sports car, and even getting out socialize, are far from the norm for Jamie and his family.
"He has actually been battling leukemia so he's still undergoing treatments and being monitored and that sort of thing. Make-A-Wish actually steps in to bring back hope, strength and joy to the family. So their world's been turned upside down. They have a new normal. So we're coming back in to give them some of that childhood back."
Despite years of anticipated treatment ahead, he has actually been feeling better than usual lately which perfect timing for a family vacation.
"And it's not just for him, his parents and his siblings get to go and for a week. There's no going to be doctor's visits, needle pricks, nothing like that. For a week he's just gonna get to be a normal kid and have a magical time at Disney World," Hubert said.
The thrill-seeker knows what he will enjoy the most at an amusement park, "Rides...and having some fun."
Jamie's wish comes true next week, but for now, the Lamborghini will do.
