An arrest warrant was served Tuesday on 33-year-old Daniel Moreno. He is the suspect who was shot by a Lubbock police officer last week, and was accused of beating two women and pointing a gun at police. The charge is attempted capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Police reported they confronted the suspect last Friday in the 3300 block of Duke St. after receiving reports of a man threatening residents with a gun. According to the police report, when officer Daniel Merritt arrived on scene, Moreno pointed a gun at him. Officer Merritt used lethal force, and fired his service weapon to end the threat.

After the shooting, police found two female victims severely beaten inside a nearby home.

Moreno's wound in the lower abdomen is not life threatening. Officer Merritt is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in these types of situations.
