Being a Boy Scout involves a lot more than camping trips and selling popcorn.

The scouts are all about building character, healthy living and serving others.

Boys Scouts of America, South Plains Council serves the city of Lubbock and 20 surrounding counties.

Board President, Greg Taylor, said after fall roundup there are approximately 3,500 to 4,000 youth involved in Boy Scouts.

The Lubbock Area United Way funds the following programs: Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, Exploring and Learning for Life.
