Repeated budget cut requests leading up to the legislative session left many wondering how low the bottom line would go when lawmakers actually meet.
Lubbock's delegation answered that question in front of Chamber of Commerce breakfast attendees Friday.
"It will be a serious challenge with regard to making sure that we get the programs out here sustained that need to be sustained," said Senator Robert Duncan. "That we basically eliminate the programs that don't need to be continued."
Representative-elect Charles Perry said every issued would be thoroughly reviewed.
"Everything's on the table, there's not going to be anything that's not reviewed. There's not going to be a process that we don't go through to have to justify whether they should exist," Perry said. "Tough cuts. Everybody's going to sacrifice this session."
Representative John Frullo said deciding where cuts should be made will not be an easy task, but it is necessary.
"It's going to be a tough job," Frullo said. "We're going to have to work hard together and we're going to have to band together as West Texans when we go down to Austin."
The group, including Plainview State Representative-elect Jim Landtroop, favors leaving specific cost cutting measures to the discretion of state agencies and institutions impact.
