Many don't consider a soccer ball to be a luxury, but for some children in third world countries, it's unfathomable.
Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity's World Cup is in it's second year, drawing a total of about 450 people.
Teams made up of Texas Tech sororities competed against each other, while raising money and donated soccer balls.
It's all in honor of Private First Class Nick Madares, a Marine who was once stationed in Iraq and died in 2006.
Nick had a love for soccer, and he made it his personal mission to share that love with children in Iraq.
Now the Kick for Nick Foundation has donated more than 28,000 balls to Iraq and other third world countries.
Roshan Sharma, chairman for the event says it allows college students to make a change while having fun.
"If you just fine a cause that you feel close to, and you feel that you want to help, that's the most important thing. Whether it's the Kick for Nick Foundation or anything else, you just want to find something that kind of tugs at your heart, and makes you want to help," Sharma said. "So I think when you have the lucky opportunity to be in college, and have all the gifts that a lot of people don't, you should give back to the people that are less fortunate and try to make a difference."
Sharma says he and his fraternity hope ATO World Cup will continue to be a Texas Tech tradition, and that the Kick for Nick Foundation will continue to inspire people everywhere.
