A disability does not have to get in the way of mobility.
Jamie Lopez of Levelland wants to prove that by taking part in a contest as part of National Mobility Awareness month in May. The 30-year-old has been struggling with muscular dystrophy since he was seven.
His former classmate, Danya Najjar, describes Jamie as a caring and positive friend.
"He's so motivational. He's such an awesome person. Just their situation, and his single mom, it limits them to get to do things. I just think it would be great for him," Najjar said.
If Jamie were to win the online voting contest, he could have a shot at a brand new wheelchair accessible van. Najjar says a new van would make things a lot easier on his caregiving mother who currently transports him in an outdated van from the 80's.
