Citizens in United Discourse Against Discrimination, or CIUDAD, hosted a candlelight vigil Tuesday night at Higginbotham Park in protest of Arizona's new immigration law, which goes into effect Thursday.
SB 1070, which would make it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally, faces just a few more hurdles.
U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton is set to rule on the constitutionality of the bill.
She will decide whether to grant the federal government's request to block sections of the bill.
Members of CUIDAD, which formed back in April, say the new law is a threat to civil liberties.
They believe it will lead to racial profiling and the alienation of many U.S. citizens.
Others say it's a perfectly good idea that will diminish problems brought about by illegal immigration.
CUIDAD members have already begun drafting letters to legislators explaining their stance and hope to elect officials who share their same viewpoint.
