Tuesday is election day in Hockley County's second Republican primary runoff for sheriff, the third vote including May's scheduled primary.
The special election decides whether R.C. Cheek or Interim Sheriff Paul Scarborough will be on the ballot in November.
Cheek won the July 31st primary runoff by one provisional vote. A recount ended with Scarborough ahead by a single vote. Cheek then filed a challenge in court claiming irregularities in the runoff and the recount.
Both candidates later agreed to a district judge's order declaring that runoff election void and calling a new one.
The winner faces former sheriff and Libertarian candidate David Kinney in the November general election.
