With two high school head football coaches now out of the game, LISD Superintendent Karen Garza is fielding a lot of questions about the future of a third, and the district's athletics in general.
Last Thursday Lubbock High's Mike Speck announced his resignation, hours after Coronado's Butch Henderson was fired.
Speakng on FOXTalk 950's FOXTalk in the Morning, Garza says Monterey football coach Todd Pearson's job is safe.
She says after just completing his second year, Coach Pearson deserves a chance to further develop his program.
Garza also says there are no plans for consolidating campuses to boost the district's 5A high schools' enrollment.
"I would not be a proponent of building these mega mega high schools of 4 thousand kids. I think our model works well. People bring up the fact, 'Why don't we reduce our schools by one and only have 3 high schools?' It won't work. We actually don't have the capacity in our other 3 high schools to have only 3 in our school district."
She says the feeder school concept will improve overall competitiveness.
