Despite political turmoil and serious religious differences in our nation, Lubbock still stands together.

A southwest Lubbock park has been transformed into a patriotic tribute coinciding with September 11th, the nine-year anniversary of the largest terrorist attack on American soil.

American State Bank sponsors the annual field of flags display.

It carries a message that's evolved over the years.

Kathy McDowell, of American State Bank, says, "This will actually be our ninth year to put out the flags. We started with 3,000 and now we've cut it back to about a 1000. We wanted to get away from the sadness of a memorial and make it sort of a field where you can come and remember our loved ones, police officers, firefighters, veterans."

The flag field is at Kastman Park off the South Loop and Indiana Avenue through 6 p-m on Tuesday.

Did you know none of the Texas state websites mention 9/11? Not even a small note of remembrance for those lost. I am disturbed that those who represent us have forgotten. It was only 9 years ago we were so deeply wounded but those who represent us forget. It is an insult to those who died in the 9/11 attacks. It is an insult to the survivors of the 9/11 attacks. It is an insult to the service men and women who have died fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is an insult to the the service men and women fighting in a foreign land now, on the anniversary of those heinous attacks on civilians. The men and women on flight 93 who had the courage to fight and save countless lives, are snub by our state government who chooses to forget.
