A generous World War II glider crewman visited the Silent Wings Museum Friday and brought with him some articles from the past.
Retired 1st Lieutenant William D. Fasking has some miles underneath his belt fighting in all three major glider actions of the 9th Air Force in Europe including D-Day, Market Garden, and the Crossing of the Rhine.
Fasking says he's made a point to make the trip out to West Texas to see this museum that has such a connection to his past.
"I vowed before I died that I would get here and see this one,' he said. "I found out they wanted that foot locker and anything else I had so we gathered that up and brought it with us."
Fasking brought with him a footlocker and some luggage full of memories from his days as a glider pilot.
Fasking says the foot locker has been through a lot throughout the years.
"Well, it's been through the Atlantic a couple of times. It lost one handle when they shipped it once. It's not in the best condition but if they want it ... they can get it."
He describes his D-Day experience as being somewhat calm, that is until he was asked to come in for a landing.
"I went to turn in on my final approach and he said any place but here and so safety over curiosity I just flipped it to the right."
Fasking was awarded the Air Medal for Valor during the Normandy invasion and two Oak Leaf Clusters for Meritorious Achievements in Action.
