Some last-minute funds are helping area teachers prepare for the first day of school.

22 elementary and secondary school educators will be able to buy special materials or try new classroom projects, thanks to grants from the Lubbock Area Foundation.

The money was awarded at a recognition reception Wednesday.

This is the 13th year of the LAF's mini grant program, open to all elementary, middle and high school educators who teach in accredited schools on the South Plains.

Each teacher selected received up to a thousand dollars toward curriculum enrichment.
