Halloween isn't just a holiday for people. Pets can get in on the festive fun as well.

The Dog Day Howl-o-ween Costume Contest gives dogs the chance to strut their costume flare.

Canines will be judged and awarded prizes for three categories: youth, teen and adults and costumer owner and pet.

Judging criteria is based on costume detail, originality, uniqueness and cuteness.

Cost is one dollar and free for the public.

The event will be at Maxey Park on the volleyball court north of the Maxey Community Center at 4020 30th Street.

Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. with judging starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 12.
