It's essentially a service that lets you the shopper be the philanthropist. The money is generated through your purchases alone and you don't even have to spend any extra to give back.
"Goodshop.com is an online shopping mall, which has partnered with all of the top retailers like Amazon, Macy's, The Gap, Staple's, Orbitz, Petco, Target and so many others to provide money-saving deals, discounts, free shipping in some cases and a percentage of what you spend at these stores goes back to your favorite non-profit or school," says Co-Founder of Goodshop.com JJ Ramberg.
Here's how it works, all you have to do is log on to Goodshop.com, enter in your favorite non-profit, do your shopping as you normally would and voila a percentage of your purchases goes directly to them. This site is especially valuable, given our economic climate.
"We hear every single day from the organizations we work with that they are struggling this year because of the economy. Donations are down at the same time that need is up," says Ramberg.
CASA of the South Plains one local organization taking part.
"CASA is actually an acronym for court appointed special advocates and we train volunteers to advocate in the courtroom and children live that are in foster care, that have been abused or neglected and try to help them navigate their way through the foster care system," says Paiva.
Executive Director Amy Paiva says they're thankful for the service because they've definitely felt the heat this year.
"We've had a drop in donations individual donations on some ends, but then we've had smaller donations. More people giving smaller donations as well," says Paiva.
By using Good-shop consumers could help out the 900 to 1,000 kids CASA serves each year even if it's just a few pennies.
"It's a lot of shopping! But we can do it, I have faith that we can do it," says Paiva.
Paiva says because of the service they've already raised more than a thousand dollars in about a year.
