The Lubbock City Council is set to vote today on extending a five-year contract with downtown master developer Delbert McDougal.
The proposed extension would include a smaller base fee, but a much larger performance-based payment. The contract could be worth more than $1 million over another five-year term. That is not including the performance bonuses.
Mikel Ward, who calls herself a taxpayer watchdog, said she wants a public progress report and details on what the more than $1 million already spent has paid for.
"They've probably done a good job in some areas," Ward said. "I'm not being that critical. It's just when you're using tax monies that have been diverted into that central business district TIF, there should be some accountability."
Ward says she would also like to know what was originally expected from the Downtown Redevelopment Project at the end of its first five years.
