Three area counties will soon have a vacant judicial seat, and Hale County's First Assistant District Attorney Chris Brown announced Thursday he is a candidate.

Brown has entered the race for the Republican nomination for 242nd District Court Judge. The position is currently held by Judge Ed Self, who is retiring.

The district covers Hale, Swisher and Castro counties.
