One person is dead, another seriously injured after a wreck Friday night at the intersection of Fourth Street and Flint Avenue, just west of the Marsha Sharp Freeway.
Police say the driver of a sedan was headed eastbound turning north, making a left turn, when he failed to yield the right-of-way to an oncoming pickup, headed westbound on Fourth Street. The truck hit the passenger side of the car; the collision then forced the car into a utility pole.
The passenger in the sedan, Kelcey Elkins, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, Shelby Duncan, 21, was seriously injured. According to investigators both were wearing their seat belt.
Both the driver and passenger in the pickup suffered moderate injuries. The truck rolled over, winding up back on its wheels. Investigators say neither the driver nor passenger of the truck were wearing their seat belt.
