TxDOT unveils new workzone safety tools
New workzone safety tools introduced from TxDOT on Friday.
TxDOT spokeswoman dianah ascencio said even with these new safety tools, drivers should still be alert.
"Even with the portable rumble strips and the AFAD, motorists still need to be aware of their surroundings when they're driving through a construction zone. They still need to slow down, " Ascencio said. " They still need to observe all the posted speed limits, but these are just two devices that we're using across the state to try to improve safety in the workzone and make sure motorists get through a cosntruction zone safe, without any knid of incident."
Another statewide tool unveiled earlier this year: yellow-flashing lights at left turn signals to help with traffic flow at intersections. One of them was the portable Rumble strip that warns motorists of an upcoming construction zone. Another, the advanced flagging automated device, or AFAD. This tool allows crews to control traffic through a remote control.
